The animosity between the royal family and the Markle clan just keeps growing!
Following Thomas Markle Sr’s last interview – in which he likened the royal family to a ‘cult’ and Scientologists – Meghan’s half brother, Thomas Markle Jr, has spoken to the media about Meghan’s strained relationship with her father – something Kensington Palace must be thrilled about.
Thomas Markle Jr spoke to the Daily Mail about Meghan’s decision to ignore her father’s attempts to contact her, saying he believes Meghan “should have handled things differently”.
“I think Meghan should have handled this from the beginning and I think it got ignored and swept under the carpet for so long,” he told the Daily Mail.
“It’s a shame where it’s ended up, especially between her and my father. No father-daughter relationship should be like this.”
Thomas went on to claim that Meghan’s relationship with her Dad was previously quite strong, and that Meghan was “all he would ever talk about.” However, their relationship apparently changed when she got her start on Suits and no longer needed her dad’s support anymore.
“Before she went to Suits, they were just in constant contact all the time. He dedicated all his time to her. But when she couldn’t give him the time he needed or wanted to spend with her, he got upset about that. She didn’t need him like she needed him before – she was getting everything she wanted from being a star and being on that show.”
Despite Thomas Jr’s claims that Meghan and her father’s relationship was strained before she met Harry, their relationship appeared fine leading up to her May 19th wedding. It was Thomas’ decision to pose for paparazzi photos that seemingly changed their relationship. Meghan reportedly hasn’t spoken to her dad since the day after her wedding, much to her father’s dismay.
“I don’t think he deserves that kind of treatment from her [no contact]. I think she owes him emotionally as his daughter to support him the way he supported her,” says Markle Jr.
What Thomas Jr fails to mention is that Thomas Sr has said repeatedly spoken to the media against Harry and Meghan’s request. This is despite Harry warning him that the media would ‘eat him alive’.
And the comments Thomas Sr has made to the media must’ve been incredibly hurtful for Meghan: “She’d be nothing without me”, “Perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died” and “I’d hate to die without speaking to Meghan again”, are just some of the emotionally manipulative comments he’s made.
So, it’s no wonder why Meghan has chosen to carry on with silent dignity in this situation.
Thomas Markle Jr also apparently questioned why the Markle clan have not been welcomed as warmly as other ‘outsiders’ into the royal family.
“They have [brought outsiders in] before in the past like with the Middletons. I don’t see why our family is any different.”
Markle specifically mentions Duchess Catherine’s uncle Gary, who has reportedly been caught chopping lines of cocaine at his Mediterranean home and allegedly hit his wife while drunk. Thomas reasons that if Gary could be forgiven and invited to Kate and William’s royal wedding, then he should have received an invite to Meghan and Harry’s wedding.
“I think Uncle Gary and I would get along just fine. It would have been nice to at least get an invite to the wedding like he was. I don’t need to be brought into all the events or whatever but it would have been nice to be brought into that.”
Hmmm, we’re going to go out on a wild limb here and say, perhaps the royal family didn’t invite Thomas – and Meghan’s half-sister Samantha, for that matter – because of all their hurtful comments to the media about Duchess Meghan?
In May this year, Thomas Markle Jr wrote a scathing open letter to Harry saying that marrying Meghan would be “the biggest mistake in royal wedding history.”
He also claimed Meghan was not the right woman for Harry and said she is a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage.”
Funnily enough, Thomas Markle Jr wasn’t invited to the royal wedding after those remarks.
And we’ve lost count of the number of nasty things Samantha has said about Meghan since her engagement was announced.
She’s called Meghan ‘Cruella de Vil’, insulted Meghan’s royal coat of arms and said Meghan is ’embarrassing’, to name just a few instances. And not only that, Samantha took credit for organising the staged paparazzi shots of Thomas Markle – the moment that fractured Meghan’s relationship with her father in the first place.
We’re sure we’re not the only ones thinking this but Samantha, Thomas Markle Jr and Thomas Markle Sr, if you’d like any kind of contact with Meghan and the royal family, quit talking about Meghan to the media!
