Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced they are expecting their first child next autumn, and we couldn’t be more excited for them!
Kensington Palace announced the happy news with an official statement:
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.
“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
And indeed, it is very happy news. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have never shied away from the fact they want to start a family. In fact, they’ve mentioned several times together (and before they met) that they would love to have children – which makes this pregnancy announcement all the more sweet.
We’ve rounded up a collection of all the lovely things Harry and Meghan have said about wanting to become parents and start a family.
The happy couple are expecting their first child together in either March, April or May next year.
Harry and Meghan’s baby dream
Even before the pair met, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were vocal about their desires to have children.
Speaking to Sky News, Harry has previously said: “I don’t think you can force these things, you know, it will happen when it’s gonna happen. Of course I would love to have kids right now but, there’s a process that one has to go through. And you know, tours like this is great fun. Hopefully I’m doing alright by myself, it would be great to have someone else next to me to sort of share the pressure but, you know, the time will come. Whatever happens happens, I guess.”
Harry has also said: “I can’t wait for the day. So, you know, it will be fantastic. I’ve got a kid inside of me. I want to keep that. I adore kids. I enjoy everything that they bring to the party. They just say what they think.”
Harry adores kids, and it seems they adore him too. Who could forget all the times Harry has happily played with kids and made them smile?

You may think the charming Prince has only become clucky after seeing his brother William become a dad, but apparently Harry has always wanted children!
He told ABC News in 2012 that he was just waiting for the right woman: “I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young,” Harry revealed. “I’m waiting to find the right person. Someone who is willing to take on the job.”
Looks like he’s finally found his right person. Altogether now, “awwww!”
Harry has always known that Meghan was ‘The One’ (he admitted he knew this after their first date), and Meghan is obviously smitten with Harry, which only makes their baby joy all the more special.

Prior to meeting Prince Harry, Meghan was also vocal about wanting a family, telling Best Health that having children was on her ‘bucket list’.
“I want to travel more and I can’t wait to start a family, but in due time,” she said.
Best Health magazine isn’t the only source Meghan has told of her desire to have children.
Meghan’s former agent, Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, revealed in the documentary Harry and Meghan: A Love Story, that Meghan had told her she wanted children.
“She said to me, ‘I would absolutely love to have children, and I can’t wait to be a mother.'”
Meghan is sporting a teeny baby bump.
Once the pair became engaged in November 2017 and after their royal wedding in May, of course, people wanted to know about their baby plans.
Harry and Meghan revealed during their BBC engagement interview that they were taking it one step at a time, but said, “Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”
Flash forward to this year. During their royal tour of Northern Ireland, Meghan and Harry were shown some innovative baby products, to which Meghan coyly said, “I’m sure at some point we’ll need the whole lot.”
Guess that time has come sooner rather than later!

We know Meghan will make a terrific mother, and royal expert and author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, Katie Nicholl, seems to agree.
Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight: “Meghan is very doting with children. She is very maternal and she was thrilled to meet George and Charlotte.
“I think one of the lovely things, anecdotes that I discovered [while writing] the book was, it was actually a moment involving children when Meghan really fell for Prince Harry.
“The reason he wanted Meghan to meet Prince George and Princess Charlotte was so she could see that — this would be hopefully replicated by them, that they would go on to have children. That you marry into the royal family, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a regular family with cute children, and here are George and Charlotte to show that that can happen. That was really important to him.”
We can’t wait to see Meghan and Harry welcome their first child next year, we just know they will be loving and caring parents.
