On July 6th the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with their newborn son Archie made their way to the Queen’s Private Chapel at Windsor Castle with their very nearest and dearest for the two-month-old’s christening ceremony.

As well as eagerly waiting for the christening portraits that would soon follow the ceremony (in which we were given our first real glimpse of Archie’s adorable face), royal fans also shared their best wishes to the new family, inundating the family-of-three with letters and cards.

And despite the high volume of letters the royal family receives, they are known to send thank you cards letters out to all their well-wishes, and that was of course the case for Archie’s christening too.

Revealed on the Instagram account @loopycrown3, the thank-you postcard Meghan and Harry sent out to well-wishes included the gorgeous black and white photograph taken by Chris Allerton on the day of Archie’s christening.

On the back of postcard is written: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been overwhelmed by all the incredibly kind cards and letters they have received on the occasion of Archie’s Christening, and are so touched that you took the trouble to write as you did.

“It really was most thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated by Their Royal Highnesses who send you their very best wishes.”

Following Archie’s christening, Meghan and Harry shared two images to @sussexroyal, one was the aforementioned black and white photograph of the family-of-three and the second was an official portrait taken in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle which included some of his closest relatives.

They included proud grandparents, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who looked gorgeous in a pink Stella McCartney ensemble, and Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Princess Diana’s sisters.

Accompanying the images the caption explains: “This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment.

“Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie.”

It continues: “Their son, Archie, was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of the fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter.

“It was subsequently worn for generations of Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren until 2004, when The Queen commissioned this handmade replica, in order for the fragile historic outfit to be preserved, and the tradition to continue.”It’s a big month of four-month-old Archie, who will be heading on his very first international tour to South Africa on September 23rd, making him the youngest royal to have ever done so.

The Sussexes will be based in South Africa for the majority of the royal tour, with Prince Harry making short visits to the neighbouring countries of Angola, Botswana and Malawi, with Prince Harry sharing his excitement about the upcoming tour on Instagram earlier this week.

“In just a few weeks our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me,” Harry wrote on Instagram.

“Our team has helped create a meaningful programme that we’re so excited to share with you.

“On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon.”
