The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have revealed their plans for Princess Charlotte’s first day of school next week, where she’ll be joining her big brother Prince George at Thomas’s Battersea.

Kensington Palace have confirmed both parents will accompany their eldest children to Thomas’s Battersea on Thursday 5th September, and the family are likely to partake in a brief photo call at the school.

Four-year-old Charlotte, who has been attending Willcocks Nursery in Kensington since January last year, will be entering what’s known as ‘Reception’, which is the class before Year One, while Prince George, six, will be beginning Year Two.

The day will no doubt be extra special for Duchess Catherine, as she was unable to attend Prince George’s first day of school in 2017, due to severe morning sickness, known as hyperemesis gravidarum, while pregnant with Prince Louis.

Talking to The Daily Mail at the time an insider revealed, “The Duchess wanted more than anything to be there. It’s a big day for her son. But she has been really very sick this week.”

Prince William was there however to make sure young George settled into his first day, holding his hand as he led a slightly nervous-looking George, who was dressed in the smart school uniform, to meet his teacher.

Kensington Palace also marked the special occasion by sharing an adorable photo of Prince William and Prince George on the steps of the Palace (with George looking a lot more relaxed!).

“TRH would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received as Prince George starts school,” the caption alongside the photo read.

Princess Charlotte reportedly can’t wait to join her elder brother at Thomas’s, with a close source telling People that Charlotte “can’t wait to be with George at big school”.

“She’s so excited about it. They are close in age, and spend so much time together.

“Playdates [with outsiders] can be tricky, so they learn to lean on each other.”

The NZ$34,400-a-year school, is just a stone’s throw away from Kensington Palace and schools boys and girls between the ages of four and 13.

According to the school’s website, in her reception year the young royal will try her hand at French, computing, art, music, drama and ballet, and will move through a variety of handwriting stages which include drawing, writing scribbles and random letters.

Her and her classmates will play and explore as well as making “choices and learn to have a go and preserve; be creative and solve problems; form good relationships; be safe, secure and happy,” the website states.

Meanwhile Prince George will be taking his classes up a gear in Year Two, with his year’s curriculum including core subjects such as maths, English, science, history and geography, alongside religious studies, French, computing, art/design technology, music, drama, PE and ballet.

The school also places a high emphasis on kindness and empathy, with one of the school’s core values being kindness.

“We expect pupils at Thomas’s to be kind, to be good friends to those around them, always on the lookout for those in need of a word of encouragement or a listening ear,” the school’s website explains.

According to Hello!, earlier this year the Headmaster of the school Simon O’Malley said they were “delighted” to welcome Princess Charlotte.

“We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas’s Battersea.

“We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September.”
