With the royal wedding less than three weeks away, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are slowing checking all those finer details off their (no doubt enormous) to-do list. And the couple, who will exchange vows at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, can now place a big fat tick next to ‘wedding transportation.’
On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced the carriage the soon-to-be-wed couple have chosen for their procession through Windsor town immediately following the ceremony.
Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, have selected an Ascot Landau from the Royal Mews to take them on their first journey as man and wife.
The carriage is one of five of its type and was previously used by Pippa Middleton at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge back in 2011. Harry, too, rode in the stately choice when he was best man for his brother.
“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to this short journey which they hope will allow them to express their gratitude for everyone who has gathered together in Windsor to enjoy the atmosphere of this special day,” the palace said in a statement.
Prince Harry has previously taken a spin or two (or three) in the stately choice, including when he was best man at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge back in 2011.
Pippa Middleton, sister to the Duchess of Cambridge, also rode in one of the carriages on the big day.
Kensington Palace also introduced us to two new wedding guests — the horses who’ll be pulling their carriage!
“Meet Storm and Tyrone,” the palace wrote alongside a picture of the handsome duo. “Father and son, two of the Windsor Grey Horses who will pull the Ascot Landau carriage on a procession through Windsor town after the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Markle!”
Of course, there are contingencies in place should the worst happen — rain! If the heavens open on the bigger than big day, the couple will travel in the Scottish State Coach. The regal carriage features large glass windows and two transparent panels in the roof, which would still ensure onlookers a decent glimpse at the just-married pair.

The soon-to-be-wed pair have also selected a wet-weather option for their wedding day: the Scottish State Coach.
For those royal watchers hoping to be on the ground, the planned route will see the couple couple will leave Windsor Castle via Castle Hill, and snake through the town along the High Street, Sheet Street, King’s Road and Albert Road, before heading back to Windsor Castle via Long Walk.
The processional will no doubt remind fans of similar scenes that played out during Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s wedding.
Wills, 35, and Kate, 36, were carried in the Imperial State Landau, a 100+-year-old carriage that had originally been built for Edward VII.
