Prince William and Duchess Catherine joined several other members of the royal family at the event, including the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Harry.

Kate, wearing an emerald green Venetian wool coat from Catherine Walker and her favourite LK Bennett nude heels, looked delighted to be browsing the picturesque collections of floral displays on the arm of her husband.

This is the first time Kate and William have attended the Chelsea Flower Show together, but the couple had a very special reason to be at the annual event this year as they viewed the pink and green Rossano Charlotte chrysanthemum named in honour of their daughter Princess Charlotte.

The flower will be sold for two years through a British supermarket chain, with half of the proceeds going towards the East Anglian Children’s Hospice, of which Kate is a patron.

Later, the couple also visited the 5,000 Poppies Garden, which was created as a tribute to the nation’s servicemen and women.

At the show, the Queen was also pictured viewing the poppy garden and a special floral exhibit created in her image. Her Majesty is a patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, which oversees the Chelsea Flower Show, and the outing marked her 51st visit to the event.

The Queen, who recently marked her 90th birthday with a gala at Windsor Castle, wore a pale pastel ensemble created by her favourite designer, Angela Kelly, for the flower show.
