It’s been 13 years since the original 2009 movie Avatar first graced our screens, so we won’t blame you if you’ve forgotten about the movie’s plotline.

In short: Avatar is set in the future — 2154 to be exact, where the Earth’s natural resources have been depleted. We are introduced to a lush alien planet, Pandora, inhabited by the Na’vi who are blue-skinned, 10-foot-tall, sapient humanoids.

In Pandora, the atmosphere is poisonous to humans, through ‘Avatars’ (Na’vi-human hybrid) humans can explore the alien world in a relatively safe way.

A paralysed former marine (Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington) becomes mobile again through his Avatar, falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Ney’tiri, Zoe Saldaña) and together they fight for the survival of the Pandorian world.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water follows Jake, Neytiri and their family as new trouble arises.

The film sees the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore and Stephen Lang, alongside new faces like Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Rabisi and Kate Winslet.

While we won’t spoil anything for you just yet, the film is already listed as the seventh highest-grossing film of all time — so you can bet it’s worth a watch.
