Oscar-winning Australian actor Heath Ledger’s tragic death in 2008 sent shockwaves throughout the industry – and now, a new documentary celebrating the late star’s life is set to reveal never-before-seen home footage of the The Dark Knight star as well as interviews with some of his closest family and friends and the Hollywood stars who worked with him.
In the heartbreaking first trailer for Spike TV’s I Am Heath Ledger, which was released overnight, snippets of interviews with Heath’s loved ones can be seen, alongside moving home video footage of the star.
“Heath was the most alive human,” musician Ben Harper can be heard saying in the trailer. “And if it wasn’t on the edge, it didn’t interest him.”
The 90-minute documentary has a premiere date of April 23 and will debut at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.
While Heath’s former partner and the mother of his daughter, Matilda, Michelle Williams, doesn’t make an appearance in the trailer or the film, the star has previously spoken out about the devastating impact of losing him.
“In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I’m a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you’ve been,” she told Porter magazine last year.
“In pretty much all senses but one. I would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad. You know that’s just something that doesn’t … I mean, it just won’t ever be right.”
