Zayn Malik ends engagement with Perrie Edwards

The former One Direction singer has called off his engagement

They’ve weathered plenty of ups and downs throughout their tumultuous relationship, but it looks like things are finally over for X Factor sweethearts Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards.
The couple, who had been dating since December 2011 after meeting on the set of the popular reality singing competition, reportedly ended their two-year engagement two weeks ago after Zayn told Perrie he wanted to move on.
“He just wanted to move on and start over in all ways,” a source told Us Weekly.
The sad news has come at a particularly difficult time for Perrie as she’s currently in the middle of a whirlwind tour with her band Little Mix to promote their latest single ‘Black Magic’.
“She’s been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she’s obviously devastated,” a source told People.
Zayn hit headlines in March this year when he was pictured getting cosy with a woman (later identified as Lauren Richardson) during a night out partying in Thailand. The picture, which Lauren shared on social media, prompted a flurry of cheating rumours around the One Direction crooner and Zayn later posted an apology professing his love for Perrie on Twitter.
That wasn’t the first time the star had been caught in a cheating scandal. In 2013, photos allegedly showing Zayn sleeping in a waitress’ bed leaked online, but Perrie stood by her man and the couple remained together.
However, this time it seems the couple are truly over. Perrie is said to be “in pieces” about the end of the couple’s engagement and looking to her bandmates for support. While both Perrie and Zayn are in Los Angeles working on separate projects, sources say the two have avoided seeing each other.
Yesterday, Perrie’s bandmate Jesy Nelson posted a snap of the star without her distinctive engagement ring, which has further fuelled speculation that the pair's engagement is off.
