At 127kg, Nina Gibson was told by her doctor she was morbidly obese.
The 48-year-old was painfully aware, after seeing her own mother pass away at just 49, that if she didn’t change her lifestyle – she could end up in an early grave too.
Admitting that she used to fry “everything” and always had a doughnut within reach, Nina realised she needed a drastic shake up.
And she found inspiration in the fittest of places – from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
“When I was in the gym it was really hard for me to do the strength training,” she told TODAY this week.”The Rock would definitely motivate me.”
Nina says Dwayne’s physical fitness and dedication to health, plus his kind and friendly persona, was the inspiration she needed to put in the work.

Previously trying weight loss programmes and the gym to no avail, Nina hit the running track, and has managed to drop an incredible 52kg.
The mum is now “hooked” on running, and is even training for her very first marathon.
Adorably, The Rock had a message for Nina, recording a video for her.
“Nina I’ve just heard the great news that you’ve lost over 100 pounds. Congratulations I’m so happy for you, very proud. Keep up the great great work, and you’ve got a lot of people here who are very happy for you.
“And thank you I heard that I in some way helped motivate you…keep up the great work.”
