The new trailer for Chasing Great, the Richie McCaw film, has been released, giving fans an inside look at the documentary which follows the All Black legend’s triumphant final season.
Set against the backdrop of Lorde’s haunting cover of ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’, the clip teases never before seen footage of the Kiwi star as he prepared to captain the All Blacks through what would eventually be back-to-back World Cup wins.
The rugby great’s family and fiancée Gemma Flynn are also seen in brief glimpses throughout the trailer, with the filmmakers weaving in Richie’s life story alongside the action-packed moments on the pitch.
“I was always quite keen to make sure I kept some of the private stuff private, not for any reason other than I just felt that was the right thing to do,” says Richie of the film.
“But I got to the end and one of the reasons for doing this is, I took a lot out of the opportunities I got and this is a chance to try and inspire perhaps some young kids or show that you don’t have to be given some super human talent or anything to fulfil your dreams.
“It’s not something magic, it’s a bit of dedication, hard work – those sort of things that, allow you to fulfil those dreams.”
Chasing Great is directed by Michelle Walshe and Justin Pemberton and will be released in New Zealand cinemas on September 1.
