Nineties kids rejoice – because Sabrina the Teenage Witch might be making a comeback.

As The CW network look forward to the launch of their new show Riverdale, executive producer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa has dropped a bombshell on viewers – by reminding them that Sabrina actually exists in the same Archie Comics universe as the new show.

“Some people don’t even know that Sabrina is in the Archie family,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“There is absolutely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale or one town over in Greendale. Certainly, the priority is launching Riverdale and making sure that show is as good as it can be and as embraced as we want it to be.”

But while the new drama might be the priority right now, Roberto told the magazine: “I’ll just tease that Sabrina has potential with a capital P.”

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a ’90s TV classic

Kiwi KJ Apa landed the lead role in the teen drama, after formerly appearing on our very own Shortland Street.

Taking on the role of Archie, KJ will be starring opposite other young Hollywood stars, as they play teens caught up in a murder in their town.

In the small “perfect town” of Riverdale, the trailer teases that “nothing is as it seems.”

And just as Riverdale is a more subversive take on the comic book version of events, producer Roberto says their plans for Sabrina are even darker.

“We’ve talked about Sabrina being something that’s a bit darker, a bit Rosemary’s Baby. It’s not going to be the half-hour sitcom with Melissa Joan Hart, but it depends on the property,” he told EW.
