Kesha has received a major helping hand in her ongoing legal battle against Dr Luke – and her latest supporter is none other than pop powerhouse Taylor Swift.
Two days after a judge blocked an injunction that would have allowed Kesha to record new music outside of her current contract with Dr Luke and Sony Music, Taylor’s publicist confirmed she was giving Kesha $250,000.
“In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” Taylor’s spokesperson said in a statement.
She’s not the only celebrity standing up for Kesha during her legal dispute. Over the weekend, Lorde tweeted that she was “standing with @KeshaRose through this traumatic, deeply unfair time” and urged her fans to “send good vibes her way”.
Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson and more have also publicly voiced their support for Kesha, and producers Jack Antonoff (who worked with Taylor on her 1989 album) and Zedd have also offered to help Kesha create new music.
Kesha has been locked in a courtroom battle with Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) since October 2014, when she filed a lawsuit in an effort to void her contracts with him and work with other labels.
In the lawsuit, Kesha alleges she was “sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused” by the producer during the 10 years leading up to the filing.
“Ms Sebert wholly believed that Dr Luke had the power and money to carry out his threats; she therefore never dared talk about, let alone report, what Dr Luke had done to her,” the suit reads.
In response, Dr Luke – who worked with Kesha on both of her albums – filed a countersuit for defamation and breach of contract. On Monday, after Kesha’s injunction was denied by the judge, he released a statement accusing Kesha of subjecting him to “trial by Twitter”.
“As Dr Luke has said repeatedly, the allegations against him are outright lie that have been advanced to extort a contract renegotiation and money,” the statement reads.
“Kesha and her counsel have cavalierly subjected Dr Luke and his family to trial by Twitter, using a vicious smear campaign to ruin his reputation for financial gain while failing to support their claims.”
