11 stars against plastic surgery

Botox injections, lip fillers, nose jobs and other plastic surgeries are pretty common in Hollywood – but there are some stars fighting back against the ‘frozen-face’ trend.

Emma Thompson has been outspoken on the subject. “I really wouldn’t do anything. It’s psychotic to have your body opened up and stuff put in and injecting yourself with poisons,” she told chat show host Graham Norton. Image: Tim P. Whitby

Meryl Streep has also weighed in on the debate: “To each his own. I really understand the chagrin that accompanies ageing, especially for a woman, but I think people look funny when they freeze their faces.” Image: Kevin Mazur

As a Lancome spokeswoman, Julia Roberts’ take on plastic surgery is particularly refreshing. “By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift,” she said. Image: David Shankbone

German supermodel Heidi Klum admits she’s too scared of plastic surgery to ever have it. “I would have a hard time looking in the mirror and seeing something that I’m not used to seeing. I’d be afraid!” she told Access Hollywood. Image: Michael Buckner

Gorgeous Salma Hayek revealed to Allure that she’s never had any procedures on her face, calling plastic surgery the “uniform of a generation”. “It’s not necessarily beautiful. It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful,” she said. Image: Raul Velazquez

41-year-old Rachel Weisz has said that “people who look too perfect don’t look sexy or particularly beautiful”.

Julianne Moore has a pragmatic view on plastic surgery, telling The Edit she wants to look like herself. “I mean, we’re not going to live forever. You could be dead at 45, and guess what? Then you don’t have to worry about ageing.” Image: Nicolas Genin

While she’s a fan of outlandish costumes and superficial body modifications (remember those ‘horns’ she attached to her face and shoulders?), Lady Gaga is adamantly against plastic surgery.

“I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. Image: Instagram

Aussie actress Cate Blanchett has unbelievable skin, but we believe her when she says plastic surgery isn’t the reason why. “Looking at women in their 20s doing this stuff, in the end all you see is the work. It doesn’t fill me with admiration; it fills me with pity,” she said. Image: Harold Cunningham

The hilarious Tina Fey told InStyle: “I don’t do Botox or any of that stuff, and I hope I never do. I’m just going to keep using firming creams and try to bring back hats with chin straps.” Image: Mingle Media
