Following Caroline’s big win against Christina McHale, Shaun Johnson made his way into the press conference at the ASB Classic to fire off a few hard-hitting questions of his own!
The Kiwi athlete started off by asking about Caroline’s pre-match meal, before getting down to the real nitty-gritty.
“One more I have to ask, on behalf of all male Kiwis in this country, hope your dad doesn’t come after me after I ask this. Can you follow me on Instagram?” Shaun asked.
Caroline replied that she would, although she joked that Shaun was more interested in fellow tennis player Ana Ivanovic, who also played at the ASB Classic.
“Yes. Are you following me? As far as I know, you came to the players’ party to see Ana Ivanovic. I’m sure you follow Ana Ivanovic too,” she quipped.
The press conference banter wasn’t the only fun Shaun had at the ASB Classic this week – yesterday night, he faced off against The Bachelor’s Art Green and Matilda Rice in a charity doubles match with Silver Fern Kayla Cullen.
While both Shaun and Kayla had the edge as professional athletes, it was Art and Matilda who eventually won the match!
Despite their victory on the court, Art revealed he and Matilda hadn’t had much time to hone their skills beforehand.
“We were away so we couldn’t [practise],” he told Stuff.
“I’ve played a bit before. I’ve been trying to coach Matty a little bit.”
“It’s not working,” Matilda joked.
There was more bad news after the charity match for Shaun, as he told reporters that he had yet to receive a follow from Caroline despite her public pledge earlier.
“Can you guys ask her in the next press conference? Say Shaun was just in your seat and still hasn’t received a following, so just ask her,” he told the crowd.
Caroline carried on the joke during her turn in the hot seat.
“So he’s stalking my Instagram now, that’s good to know!” she joked.
“I don’t know, he should ask me himself.”
