Seal slammed by fans over controversial Lorde diss on The Voice

The Voice coach is facing backlash over his criticism of the Kiwi songstress.
Seal slams Lorde on The Voice Australia

Seal is back on The Voice Australia, and he’s definitely not pulling his punches.

The outspoken singer caused a bit of a stir in the latest episode of the Australian reality series after dissing Kiwi pop star Lorde’s hit single “Green Light”, calling it a “bad song”.

The harsh critique came after contestant Sarah Stone performed her own rendition of the track.

“Look, Sarah, I really like you – I’ve told you that off set. I think you made the most of a not particularly good song. I’m not a big fan,” Seal told her.

“I couldn’t sing that song because it wouldn’t inspire me, but I thought you did great,” he continued.

“Well, she sang it better than Seal!” quipped Stone’s coach Boy George, to which Seal responded: “Perhaps, because Seal doesn’t sing bad songs”.

Seal’s cutting comments didn’t sit well with some Voice viewers, who took to social media to share their reactions to the controversial moment.

While Seal may not be a big fan of Lorde, the Kiwi pop star’s found plenty of praise from others in the industry, following the release of her second album Melodrama earlier this month.

Pitchfork called the record “a masterful study of being a young woman … crafted with the utmost care and wisdom”, while Paste deemed Melodrama a “glittering electropop triumph”.

Lead single “Green Light” also debuted to strong reviews at the time, with Rolling Stone calling the song a “stomping electro-acoustic thrill ride”.
