Sam, 23, underwent vocal surgery last month after suffering a small haemorrhage on his vocal cords while on tour. The procedure meant he wouldn’t be able to speak for three weeks after the operation, but Sam assured his fans the end result would be well worth it.

Happily, it looks like the surgery has paid off! The star took to Instagram today to let his fans know he could speak again, using an image of Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid after she got her own voice back from the villainous Ursula.

Thanking his “amazing” doctor for helping him recover, Sam described how the whole experience had inspired him to fall back in love with music.

“You truly truly truly don’t know what you got until you lose it. I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel so blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day xx,” he wrote in a caption alongside a photo of him and his doctor.
