Kicking off the night with an impassioned opening speech, Ashton Kutcher slammed Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies. The actor welcomed the audience and “everyone in airports that belong in my America!”

“You are a part of the fabric of who we are, and we love you, and we welcome you,” he continued.

The first winner of the night, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, used her time on the stage to slam Trump’s “un-American” stance.

“I want you all to know that I am the daughter of an immigrant,” she began.

“My father fled religious persecution in Nazi-occupied France and I’m an American patriot and I love this country. Because I love this country, I am horrified by its blemishes and this immigrant ban is a blemish and it is un-American.”

Julia’s speech was met with wild applause.

There are thirteen awards up for grabs in tonight’s awards show.

Manchester By The Sea leads the way in the movie categories with four nominations. Fences and Moonlight are right behind with three, while La La Land, Hidden Figures and Captain Fantastic both hold strong with two nominations.
