Russell Brand is getting candid about fatherhood, his girlfriend Laura Gallacher and his 14-month marriage to ex Katy Perry.
Appearing on the TV show John Bishop In Conversation, the funny man blamed “the undulating nature of fame” for his split from Katy – but despite everything that happened, Russell says he holds no grudges.
“I have come away from that experience and I still feel very warm towards her,” he said.
“When I hear about her or see her, I think, ‘Ah, there’s that person, that person in the world.'”
Russell and Katy were married for 14 months.
Katy has previously spoken out about their divorce, blaming the breakdown of their relationship on the couple’s hectic schedules and his desire to have kids.
“[Russell] really wanted me to have children, and I knew I wasn’t ready – I think it was a way of control. I think it was part of, if I have a kid, then I would have to sacrifice – I’d have to be home more.
“I really wanted to, but I knew I wasn’t ready for it,” she told Marie Claire.
Katy also put Russell on blast for ending the marriage via text message, telling Vogue at the time that she hadn’t heard from him “since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
However, speaking to host John Bishop about the 2011 split, Russell said Katy was “obviously very, very occupied and busy. I was occupied and busy but not to the same degree”.
“The marriage didn’t last for a very long time and I think that is due to the undulating nature of fame, living in those conditions,” he went on.
Since splitting from Russell, Katy has been linked to John Mayer and Orlando Bloom, while Russell moved on with new girlfriend Laura Gallacher.
Katy and Russell got engaged on New Year’s Eve in India in 2009. They returned to the country the following year to tie the knot in a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan.
Since then, Russell has moved on with new love Laura Gallacher, and the couple welcomed their daughter Mabel in 2016.
After splitting from Russell, Katy was linked to John Mayer and most recently, Orlando Bloom.
