Their relationship has been through plenty of ups and downs over the years – many of them in the public eye – but in a new interview, Rihanna reveals she’ll always care about her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

In November’s Vanity Fair, the Barbadian bombshell opens up about the night of February 7, 2009, when Chris assaulted her in his car the night before the Grammy Awards. The incident sparked shockwaves in the media, and the heat only grew more intense when pictures of Rihanna’s bruised, swollen face were leaked to TMZ after the incident.

“I was that girl … who felt that as much pain as this relationship is, maybe some people are built stronger than others,” she told Vanity Fair.

“Maybe I’m one of those people built to handle s**t like this.”

Ultimately, Rihanna says there came a point when she realised she just had to walk away from the relationship, but in spite of everything that happened, she still cares about Chris.

“I don’t hate him. I will care about him until the day I die. We’re not friends, but it’s not like we’re enemies,” she told the publication.

“We don’t have much of a relationship now.”

The ‘B***c Better Have My Money’ singer also opened up about the many rumours surrounding her personal life, laughing off the tall tales about her reputation as a wild party girl. Despite the many short-lived flings reported in the media, the 27-year-old still counts Chris as her last official relationship and says her work keeps her too busy for love.

For now, the star is hard at work on her next album, as well as her charity work and collaborations with brands such as Puma and Dior.

“I’m fine being with myself. I’ve got too much on my plate, and I’m not even worried about it,” she told Vanity Fair.
