Ricky Martin is engaged to his partner Jwan Yosef, the singer has announced this week.
Martin was the one who popped the question to his boyfriend, who is a conceptual artist, earlier this year, he told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The couple met last year after art collector Ricky got in contact with Jwan about his work. After messaging, the pair met in person and quickly became an item.
“I saw his art, and I went crazy ‘cause I really love what he does. Really original. And I contacted him,” Ricky explained to Ellen.
“… and then I saw what he looked like and I’m like, ‘Mhmm, yeah,’” Martin said. “And we just got engaged,” the singer joked.
Revealing how he proposed, Ricky said he got down on one knee and pulled out a metal box in a velvet pouch. “Instead of saying ‘would you marry me’ I said ‘I got you something!’ – bad,” explained Martin.
His partner then asked him what the question was, to which Ricky was forced to ask his question, despite the nerves.
“It was very beautiful and then 30 minutes after I said ‘Wait did you say yes?’”
Ricky Martin spent more than 14 years in a relationship with Mexican TV host Rebeca de Alba before he came out in 2010.
He had a long relationship with economist Gonzalez Abella that ended in 2014, before meeting Jwan.
Jwan Yosef is a Syrian Swedish painter who bases himself in London.
