Polly Gillespie and Grant Kereama will leave their morning radio show on The Hits in Auckland, making way for Toni Street and Breakfast’s Sam Wallace.
The couple, who were previously married, will remain on airwaves around the country. However, it has been confirmed Breakfast long-time weatherman Wallace will quit TV to move into radio – and he’s teaming up with Seven Sharp host, Street, according to a statement fromNZME, who own The Hits.
Gillespie took to Facebook to post a video about the changes.
“The Auckland show is changing because apparently in Auckland, you need TV people on the radio. Darn, if only I’d done that TV game show Celebrity Squares for another 10 years,” she joked.
“They want to do a TV star [breakfast radio show], And you know what, that might be fantastic.”
Street and Wallace, who currently host a Saturday morning radio show together, will be the new morning show hosts on the popular station.
Sam Walllace has quit Breakfast.
The move means Wallace will have to leave the TVNZ morning show he’s been a part of since 2012. Breakfast underwent a massive overhaul late this year when Rawdon Christie and Nadine Chalmers-Ross were replaced by Hilary Barry and Jack Tame.
Street will continue to host Seven Sharp alongside Mike Hosking, who also presents a morning radio show – on Newstalk ZB.
“If Hosking can do it, how hard can it be?” Street joked after the announcement.
“As a mother-of-two, my family are always my priority but I have their full support on this and I can’t wait for the adventure ahead.”
The new radio show will launch in February.
