Parris Goebel could be adding an MTV Video Music Award to her already long list of achievements.
The Kiwi dancer has nabbed her very first nomination thanks to her work on Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’ music video, which is up for the top prize, Video of the Year, at the 2016 awards ceremony.
The clip, which went viral soon after its release online last year, is also up for Best Pop Video. In addition, Parris was nominated for her work on ‘PURPOSE: The Movement’, a ‘short film’ made up of 13 dance-led music videos that were created for each song on Justin’s latest album.

“This is just crazy. My work has been nominated in 3 VMA category’s,” the 24-year-old wrote on Instagram today, shortly after the nominations were announced.
“What a beautiful reminder to myself that anything is possible. Don’t give up on your dreams, if this Polynesian high school drop out from Auckland NZ can do it … you can do it too.
“Big kisses to the incredible dancers that helped me bring this project to life. I think we made something really special,” she continued.
The music video for ‘Sorry’, which features Parris and female dancers from her crews ReQuest and The Royal Family, was released in October 2015 and has since racked up millions of views.
Parris directed and choreographed the viral video clip, and later told Elle that the footage all came together in just two days.
“It was all about having fun, not really overthinking the opportunity or overthinking the fact that it was Justin Bieber. We just did our own thing and hoped and prayed that the world would like it.”
While MTV was clearly feeing the love for Parris, it seems perennial award-winner Taylor Swift has been unexpectedly shut out of this year’s awards.
The pop star didn’t manage to get a single nomination, but arch-rival Kanye West’s controversial video for ‘Famous’ (which contains the infamous Taylor Swift lyrics that re-launched their feud this year) is up for Video of the Year.
Beyonce was the undisputed queen of the nominations this year, up for a career-best 11 awards n total including Video of the Year for ‘Formation’ and Breakthrough Long Form Video for her HBO special Lemonade.
Adele came in second with eight nominations, notching up seven alone for her ‘Hello’ music video.
