Naya Rivera is calling off her two-year marriage to Ryan Dorsey.
The actress filed for divorce last week and is requesting primary custody of the couple’s one-year-old son Josey, according to TMZ, with Ryan to have visitation rights.
The pair had dated previously in their early twenties, but got back together just three months after Naya’s very public breakup from rapper Big Sean, who went on to date singer Ariana Grande.
Naya and Ryan tied the knot in July 2014, on the same date she and Big Sean had saved for their own wedding before they split. Baby Josey was born in September of the following year.
Naya’s nuptials came as a surprise to many of the actress’ inner circle, according to reports at the time.
“Naya didn’t tell most of her friends that she was marrying Ryan Dorsey, let alone that she was dating him!” a source told Us of the shock wedding.
Most recently, Naya made headlines for the bombshells in her tell-all book Sorry Not Sorry – including her allegations that Big Sean had cheated on her with ‘Side to Side’ singer Ariana. On one occasion, she wrote, she even caught Ariana in her fiance’s home.
“We’d been fighting for five straight days while he was travelling, and then on the one day that he was back in LA, he said he didn’t want to see me,” she writes, in an extract obtained by The Daily Mail.
“Well, a——, I’ve got a key to your house. I walk in, go downstairs, and guess what little girl is sitting cross-legged on the couch listening to music? It rhymes with ‘Smariana Schmande,’” Naya continued.
Naya also claimed she found out the rapper had called off their marriage on the internet, after Big Sean’s publicist released a statement announcing the breakup.
“I learned that I was no longer getting married from the internet, and at the same time as the rest of the world. Not only were we no longer getting married, but apparently we weren’t even together anymore,” she wrote.
In Sorry Not Sorry, Naya also opened up about having an abortion following her earlier split from Ryan back in 2010, and how he supported her after she told him what had happened.
The actress found out she was pregnant with his child just weeks after breaking up with him in order to focus on her career, terminating the pregnancy during her one day off from filming a Glee episode.
“He said, ‘In the short time that we dated, I wish that I could have done something to make you feel like you could have trusted me with that information because I would have loved to have been there with you,’” Naya said of Ryan’s reaction to the news.
“I think it was the kindest, best thing that any man could have ever said in that situation. It just made me love him that much more.”
