Nadine Chalmers-Ross broke down in tears as she signed off from Breakfast for the last time this morning, following co-host Rawdon Christie and newsreader Peter Williams’ departures last week.

The veteran journalist was the last to leave the programme, ahead of a new hosting duo – made up of Hilary Barry and Jack Tame – who will be taking over the show from Monday.

Sitting next to Tim Wilson, her temporary co-host for the past week, Nadine fought valiantly against her tears, before finally giving in to the emotion as the Breakfast crew walked on set to farewell her.

“I do feel a little bit like I’ve grown up on this show because I arrived at 23,” she said.

“Eight years I think it’s been, and most of it has been spent on the breakfast couch. The decision to leave was a hard one, but I think the right one.

“I have had the chance to work with some amazing people. I’ve made some really good friends. I’ve learnt some hard lessons too, and that’s important,” she continued.

As they did with Rawdon, the Breakfast team put together a compilation of Nadine’s best moments over the years.

Rawdon and Nadine will be replaced by new hosts Hilary Barry and Jack Tame from Monday.
