New Zealanders can bid for their chance to take home a bed designed by one of four high-profile Kiwis with the launch of this year’s Sealy Posturepedic Designer Beds initiative.

Silver Ferns star Maria Tutaia, broadcaster Stacey Morrison, My Food Bag co-founder Nadia Lim and style consultant Lorraine Downes have all teamed up with the company to create a unique, one-off fabric design for Sealy’s Posturepedic Exquisite beds.

The bespoke beds will be auctioned off on TradeMe for two weeks, beginning from October 17, with all proceeds going to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

We sat down with Nadia and Stacey to chat about their bed designs and why they wanted to get involved with the campaign.

How does it feel to be part of the Designer Bed campaign with Sealy?

I’m just glad I can help in some way to promote awareness and raise funds for a very important cause.

How did you come up with your design for your bed?

It’s an artwork that one of my awesome followers on Facebook sent me. It’s a picture of one of my recipes, for banana pancakes. And I thought it would be great on the bed, so if you ever want breakfast in bed you’ve got the recipe right there. You’ll never lose it!

What was your favourite part of working on this campaign?

Unveiling the bed!

What appealed to you about working with Sealy on this campaign?

The Foundation does great work supporting women going through a tough time, and it’s great of Sealy to donate all the profits from these auction sales to the Foundation, so I’m more than happy to help out!

How does it feel to be part of the Designer Beds campaign for Sealy?

It’s so exciting, I actually found it hard to believe, and when I finally saw the bed in person I was quite overcome, and had to jump on it immediately – I felt like the Princess and the pea.

How did you come up with your design for your bed?

I loved the vintage map design we had put on our retro caravan do-up for Whanau Living so made that the basis of my design. I added some additional details – dual names and my husband’s karakia for sleep which we say to our kids every night, and included colours, motifs and plants which represent many of the things that make me proud to be a New Zealander.

What was your favourite part of working on this campaign?

I love the cause and the opportunity to raise awareness that could ultimately save lives.

What appealed to you about working with Sealy on this campaign?

I’ve admired this campaign for years so jumped at the opportunity to be involved especially as it’s for a cause very close to my own heart.

What does the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation mean to you?

Working with the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation for many years has been a privilege. I’m hugely grateful for the women and families they help, and everything they’ve done for my family since losing my mum to breast cancer. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to help other families going through what we did.
