Actress Mischa Barton is warning women to be more careful on nights out, after claims her drink was spiked with the date rape drug GHB.

The star has just been released from hospital following a recent incident where she was found by neighbours in an incoherent and confused state, TMZ reports.

Barton had been out earlier in the evening celebrating her 31st birthday with friends.

According to a source the young actress was seen “hanging over her backyard fence in West Hollywood and rambling about her mum being a witch, the world shattering and Ziggy Stardust.”

Calls were made to the police over fears for Barton’s safety and she was hospitalised for a mental evaluation.

Barton has now returned home, and has since released a statement to People explaining what had happened.

“On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realised that something was not right as my behaviour was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours,” she said in the statement.

The 31-year-old also said she “voluntarily went to get professional help” and was informed by staff that she had been given GHB – a drug also known as liquid ecstasy which is colourless and odourless and can easily be slipped into drinks.

When mixed with alcohol, it can cause rapid intoxication.

Barton spent one night at the Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai hospital and since her release has issued a warning to women everywhere of their need to be careful on nights out.

“This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings.”
