In Free State of Jones, which hit New Zealand cinemas on September 1, Matthew McConaughey plays Mississippi farmer Newton Knight, who raised a real-life rebellion against the Confederacy during the time of the American Civil War.
Based on a true story, Free State of Jones was directed by Gary Ross and also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali.
