The Daily Telegraph reports that Ben Ungermann, a strong contender on this season of MasterChef Australia, has been charged and convicted for low-range drink driving in Brisbane.

The publication claims the 32-year-old was sentenced to a two-month driving ban and $400 fine.

In a bizarre twist, Ben, a father-of-three, was actually pulled over on May 26 by fellow MasterChef season 9 star, Nicole’s sister – Constable Leah Stevenson.

Ben is one of the remaining finalists on season nine of the hit cooking show.

Fellow contestant Nicole – who was part of the top 24 this season – is also connected to the incident, as her sister was the one who initially pulled Ben over.

While Ben is yet to comment on the situation, a spokesman for the makers of MasterChef released a statement.

“Ben feels deeply remorseful about making this one-off judgment error and respects the actions of the police and the verdict of the court.”
