Kiwi Grey’s Anatomy fans could be seeing a familiar face on the next season of the hit show!

According to Deadline, Martin Henderson has been cast as a regular for season 12 of the Shonda Rhimes-produced series. While no further details have been provided about Martin’s character, the New Zealand actor is expected to play a new surgeon at the hospital.

This won’t be the first time Martin has worked with Shonda Rhimes, the woman behind other hits such as Scandal and Private Practice. In 2011, he starred in Off the Map, a drama produced by Shonda, and he also starred in her production company’s 2009 pilot called Inside the Box.

Martin could have some big shoes to fill on Grey’s Anatomy, as the 12th season will be the show’s first without (spoiler alert) Patrick Dempsey, whose fan favourite character Dr. Derek Shepherd (also known as McDreamy) ended his long run on the show in Season 11.

Martin first rose to fame on New Zealand’s own Shortland Street, playing the role of brooding teen Stuart Neilson from 1992-1995. Since leaving the show, he’s starred alongside Aishwarya Rai in 2004’s Bride and Prejudice and most recently appeared in the television series Secrets & Lies and The Red Road.
