Silver Fern Maria Folau is supporting her husband Israel Folau after his anti-gay comment on Instagram.
The Australian rugby star sparked debate after a controversial post to his Instagram suggesting that gay people should be condemned to “hell” unless they “repent” for their sins.
Maria Folau has posted to her Instagram to defend her husband after he received backlash from fans.
“Stand with God no matter what…” the post read.
“Don’t be afraid to stand up for the truth, even if that means you’ll be standing alone.”
Israel Folau replied to his wife’s post saying: “Amen babe. God is the only one we follow and bow down to.”
Israel Folau is a Christian, but was raised Mormon.
He has also admitted that he voted against marriage equality in Australia.
