Lydia Ko has won her first major at the Evian Championship in France after an amazing final round of 63, making her the youngest player in LPGA Tour history to win a major tournament!

The 18-year-old achieved her long-awaited milestone in style with a six-shot lead over American competitor Lexi Thompson. At 18 years, four months and 20 days, Lydia has also become the youngest woman to win a major, breaking the previous record set by American Morgan Pressel, who was around six months older when she won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Despite winning her fair share of tournaments before, this was Lydia’s 17th attempt at a major, and getting the Evian Championship under her belt will surely silence any lingering questions about the talented athlete’s ability.

“It’s definitely one of the top rounds of my whole entire life and I’m sure it will be for my career,” Lydia said after her victory.

Meanwhile, her coach David Leadbetter told Radio Sport’s Matt Brown he always knew it was a question of “when, not if”.

“This has squashed all the questions about winning a major and the first one is always the toughest,” David said.

“I think she will respond to it very well. The first time I laid eyes on her I thought, ‘wow, this girl has got some game.’”
