Lorde is also scheduled to perform on SNL soon after the mysterious dates teased on her social media.

Days after teasing fans with a cryptic series of announcements, Kiwi songstress Lorde has finally confirmed the release of her new single ‘Green Light’ at 8AM tomorrow (NZ time).

“I am so proud of this song. It’s very different, and kinda unexpected,” the singer wrote on Twitter after revealing the release date.

“It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE,” she continued. “It’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life. This is where we begin.”

Lorde – real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor – went on to announce that the single would debut with a music video directed by Grant Singer.

The big news comes after she and her team arranged a series of teasers set up at various locations around Auckland last night. Tweeting out a map of central Auckland to her followers with three separate points marked, Lorde wrote: “AUCKLAND: from 9:30 pm TONIGHT, I’ve organised a few more little glimpses at what’s coming”.

At one spot, Auckland’s Town Hall, the words ‘Green Light’ could be seen projected onto a wall with a green background. At a second location – the intersection of Ponsonby Rd and Karangahape Rd – fans came across a white car filled with green lights and smoke.

One of the windows had the words “I do my makeup in someone else’s car” displayed, leading many to guess they were part of the lyrics to one of Lorde’s new songs.

At the third spot, which had been marked at Hamilton Road Beach in Herne Bay, there was some initial confusion as the 9.30pm deadline passed with nothing happening. Shortly afterwards, Lorde took to Twitter again to reveal the location was actually at Herne Bay Beach.

There, fans saw drones in the air and more green lights, with a sign reading “She thinks you love the beach, you’re such a damn liar” set up.

It’s been over three years since Lorde released her debut album Pure Heroine, which spawned the global hit single ‘Royals’.

On Monday, fans got their first clue that new music was coming when she released a short, mysterious ad showing her eating fast food in the back of a car while upbeat piano-heavy music played in the background.

A second teaser was released yesterday showing Lorde walking alongside a chain-link fence, with city lights visible behind her.

The third teaser, released today, showed a clip of the singer dancing wildly in a club as a few more seconds of music played in the background.
