Bachelorette Kate’s working on love

Our very own blonde bombshell is ready for romance!

She likens herself to Bridget Jones, the fictional writer struggling to make sense of her fruitless love life. But we’re finding it tough to see the comparison – smart, sophisticated, successful and gorgeous to boot, our very own Woman’s Day advertising guru Kate Cameron seems to have it all.

“Well, I like to think I have a better fashion sense, better lingerie and a better hair colourist,” smiles the media darling of The Bachelor New Zealand, “but like Bridget, I’m clumsy. I was the funny, chubby girl at high school and I don’t think that part of me will ever leave. I live life to the full, openly talk about my flaws and can have a laugh at my own expense.”

It’s Kate’s down-to-earth nature that has made the Bachelorette a favourite during her time on the TV3 show. Born and raised on a farm in Otamarakau, in the Bay of Plenty, the country cutie earnt her pocket money milking cows and shearing sheep before upping sticks to boarding school in Auckland in her teens.

After finishing a commerce degree, Kate, 28, worked in advertising before heading off to Italy to be an au pair, then returning to Aotearoa to sink her teeth into magazines. “My 20s have been about my career and I adore my job,” she says. “Woman’s Day gives me the warm fuzzies and, along the way, I’ve met some lovely men, but I haven’t found ‘the one’.

While her love story with Jordan Mauger may have come to an end this week, the blonde beauty says she’s hoping her intuition will help her find her happy ever after.

“I like to think when I have found that guy, my intuition will guide me and I won’t have to question it,” she says.

6:30am “I fumble out of bed and hit the gym with my personal trainer. Torture!”

“But, at least I’m burning off all the naughty treats I’m tempted with in the office.”

8am “The Woman’s Day office is close to the gym, so I shower at work. People call me the bag lady! I’ll have a gym bag, my briefcase-sized make-up bag, grocery bags and dry-cleaning. It takes me 30 minutes to get ready. Sometimes I’ll change three times!”

8:30am “Coffee, finally! I’ll have a long black with a dollop of cream, then eat breakfast at my desk, usually poached eggs on Paleo toast.”

9am “After a sales meeting I’m usually racing for a taxi to head into a meeting or presentation. I’ll often bring along a tray of incredibly unhealthy cupcakes which I try not to eat.”

Noon “Lunch is usually at my desk too. From Monday to midweek, it’s all homemade. But by Thursday, all good intentions have gone out the window.”

1pm Time to re-do my make-up for an afternoon of client meetings. I need a better concealer – my one isn’t lasting!

3pm I settle in for an afternoon of emails, phone calls, research and planning.

Catch-ups with Editor-in-Chief Sido are all part of my Day!

7pm I’ll whip together a healthy stir-fry or a steak for dinner. Before The Bachelor, I had a Tinder date once a week – sigh!

9.30pm After a wine and a de-brief with my flatmate, then a catch-up on social media, I’m off to bed. Good night!
