The singer takes a public jab at his awkward relationship with ex-girlfriend Taylor

The two haven’t been on the friendliest terms since breaking up in early 2010, and it seems like there’s no love lost between them now!

On Saturday, during the last stint of his three-night gig hosting The Late Late Show, John didn’t pull any punches with his final monologue.

“You can see me at the Grammys doing what I do best – being avoided by Taylor Swift,” he joked, to cheers and applause from the studio audience.

It’s no secret that John and Taylor – who dated when she was 19 years old – have had a somewhat frosty relationship. Being musicians, of course, the two have taken jabs at each other through their songs, with many seeing Taylor’s hit ‘Dear John’ as her response to their brief relationship.

The song includes plenty of biting lyrics, such as “don’t you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home/I should’ve known”. For his part, John labelled the tune “cheap songwriting” and wrote his own reported revenge song ‘Paper Dolls’ – though he’s never confirmed or denied it was about Taylor.
