Fans of hit UK soap Coronation Street have gone into overdrive after a popular character has hinted at a comeback.

Kevin Kennedy, who played the infamous Curly Watts for two decades, has expressed his desire to return to the Street, 13 years since he last graced the cobbles.

Speaking on British chat show Lorraine, Kevin admitted that he would “love to go back and do some more,” adding that he grew up on the programme.

“The irony of it is that one of the excuses for people leaving is to spend more time with their family but I would have to go back to spend more time with mine because I’m always on the road,” the actor added.

Curly Watts was a constant fixture for 20 years

Kevin, who played Curly until 2003 when he was written out of the soap, has since been acting on stage and in TV commercials, and runs a recovery service with his wife Claire.

In Coro, Curly was an unlucky in love supermarket worker with a passion for astronomy. He left in 2003 with his wife Emma Taylor to start a new life in Newcastle.

Acknowledging his 20 years on the soap, Kevin told Lorraine:

“It would be very churlish and arrogant of me to deny that body of work. I’m very proud of my work on Coronation Street and the stories that we did with the writers and other actors and it’s a life calendar thing – people remember a story from what was going on in their lives.”
