In the wake of her shocking divorce from husband Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani found love in the arms of an unlikely new romantic interest – country star and fellow judge on The Voice, Blake Shelton.

Since then, the couple have gone from strength to strength, with the lovebirds even collaborating on a country song together called ‘Go Ahead and Break My Heart’ – and of course, both Blake and Gwen know a thing or two about dealing with heartbreak.

Gwen is opening up about the man who has helped to heal her heart.

The couple got together in November 2015, several months after both had split from their respective spouses. Gwen and Gavin called it quits in August of that year after 13 years of marriage, while Blake and country singer Miranda Lambert announced their separation in July.

Opening up to Glamour, Gwen revealed that their shared experiences of divorce helped them bond.

“Finding somebody who was going through the exact same experience? That was an inspiration,” Gwen revealed.

“He was a friend to me when I needed a friend. An unexpected gift. And that became an inspiration in the songwriting.”

While Gwen acknowledges that the relationship encompasses “two different cultures”, she says the two also share a lot of things in common.

“There are many similarities, in things that we love and our moral. But it’s really fun when you can learn about so many new things and share those differences,” she gushed.

“He was a friend to me when I needed a friend,” Gwen says of Blake.
