Former All Black Jerry Collins and his wife Alana Madill have been killed in a tragic car accident in France, the New Zealand Embassy in Paris has confirmed.

Stuff.co.nz reports that Jerry and Alana were killed instantly in the crash, which was reportedly caused when a bus collided with the family’s stationary vehicle. The couple’s three-month-old daughter Ayla survived the accident and is in critical condition in a Montpellier hospital.

During the course of his career in New Zealand rugby, Jerry played 48 tests for the All Blacks, including three as captain. He also played for the Hurricanes between 2001-2008, and had recently relocated to France to play for the Narbonne club.

Tributes have already started flowing in on Twitter, from Jerry’s former teammates, friends and admirers all over the world.
