‘Flight of the Conchords’ star to write fairy tale musical comedy

The Oscar winner, who took out the top prize for his song writing effort, The Muppets, has been tapped to write the screenplay of a new film entitled Moonland.

Indiewire reports the film follows an 11-year-old girl, who lands in a magical world via a flying bike, and immediately gets wrapped up in an adventure. Wrongfully imprisoned, the girl escapes to go on a mission with a knight to save a beautiful princess.

Bret, known by audiences here and around the world as one half of the music duo, Flight of the Conchords, will reunite with The Muppets director, James Bobin, to create the screenplay for the fairy tale musical comedy.

Flight of the Conchords to reunite?

According to Collider, Bret revealed in 2013 he was working on the project with the director, and while it was it’s startup phase then, he said it pulled elements from movies such as Labyrinth and The Princess Bride.

Bret, along with Flight of the Conchord’s partner, Jemaine Clement, is a Grammy award-winner for the widely-acclaimed HBO TV series. As well, the talented singer-songwriter, served as musical supervisor for The Muppets, and its sequel, Muppets Most Wanted.

He has also co-starred in Austenland, and made brief appearances in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
