Embarrassing Bodies’ star Doctor Christian has hit out at Gwyneth Paltrow, over an article the actress published about condoms and lube being ‘toxic.’
The 43-year-old actress shared an article about the potential toxic nature of condoms and lube in a post on Goop, her lifestyle site.
In the article, Dr Maggie Ney – who directs a Women’s Clinic in Santa Monica – gives her advice on combatting vaginal dryness, plus what she thinks of shop bought lubes.
Dr Ney’s belief is that parabens found in lubes can “interfere with our normal, rhythmic, hormonal process,” and lead to cancer and reproductive health issues. In addition, other ingredients in both condoms and lube can cause thrush and other genital problems.
The article also discusses the uses of coconut oil, olive oil and aloe vera as alternative, natural lubricants – but there’s one big catch: none of those can be used with condoms because they make the latex less effective.

Dr Christian Jessen hit back at Gwyneth’s article on Twitter

Dr Christian Jessen, who fronts popular health TV show Embarrassing Bodies, has called the piece “irresponsible guff (or goop?)” on his Twitter page, with many of his followers backing him up on the issue.
“Cannot believe that Gwyneth Paltrow is writing that condoms and lube are ‘highly toxic’ – what appallingly irresponsible guff! (or goop?)” he tweeted on Friday.
Dr Ney does mention that condoms are important though, writing: “Condoms are so important and I definitely feel that the benefits of condoms (protection against STIs and pregnancy at the same time) far outweigh the risk of being exposed to these chemicals and toxins.”
