Ellen DeGeneres’ father, Elliot DeGeneres, has sadly died aged 92.

The Ellen Show host, 59, revealed her father – a former insurance salesman – had passed earlier in the week on her TV show.

“Before we go to break, there’s something else I want to talk about. I mentioned yesterday when I was talking about all the mudslides that are going on in my community of Montecito, which is heartbreaking, I said that I had a lot going on in my life. In addition to what’s going on in Montecito, I lost my dad this week,” DeGeneres said.

“That is my dad, Elliot. That’s me when I was, I don’t know how old I was, but I do remember that picture,” she said, referencing a black-and-white image of herself and her father that displayed on the screen.

“He was 92 years old, he had a good long life, and he lived his life exactly how he wanted. He was Christian Science his entire life, he never had medicine his whole life — never went to a doctor. I never had a vaccination. We never had medicine growing up. And he lived to be 92,” she added.

Her mother, Betty, and father divorced in 1970 when DeGeneres was 13-years-old.

DeGeneres said Elliot “was very proud of me. He loved this show and he was a kind man, very accepting man. There was not one bone of judgment in his body.”

The host shared a touching childhood memory on Twitter and showed a rainbow shining over a poster of her the day he died.

“This is what I saw after I talked to my dad and he died 10 minutes later after that,” she said. “Pretty amazing. … I got a rainbow before he died.”
