While the 25-year-old singer openly admitted to a diet of pizza and beer while touring, he said being on stage every night ensured he kept the weight off.

It wasn’t until he took a year off to record his new album – while still living on pizza and beer – he noticed his weight slowly creep up, The Telegraph reports.

“I stopped touring and carried on my diet of pizza and beer. Suddenly I didn’t fit in anything. I was like, ‘All my clothes have shrunk’.”

Ahead of the release of his much anticipated follow-up to records + and x, the songwriter be started to diet with the help of his girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn.

Sheeran also revealed he exercised daily to help shift the bulk. He said 10 minutes of intense exercise every day had really helped, and the less but often approach meant not having to do more later because he’d missed a session.

“I did 10 minutes a day without fail – intervals of 30 seconds and 30 seconds sprinting. The key is to not miss a day, so you don’t have to do an hour.”
