It’s over for Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly Buffington-Quaid, after over a decade of marriage.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to end our 12 year marriage,” the couple said in a joint statement provided to TMZ.
“We will always remain great friends and devoted partners in raising our children.”
The couple have been together for 12 years.
The split is the latest in a series of personal ups and downs for the couple, who tied the knot in 2004 and have eight-year-old twins Thomas and Zoe together. Two weeks after their twin bundles of joy were born, the pair were thrown into a medical nightmare when the infants accidentally received a huge overdose of Heparin (a blood thinner). Thankfully, the twins pulled through, and the couple reached a $750,000 settlement against the hospital in 2008.
Four years later, Kimberly filed for divorce for the first time in March 2012, citing “discord or conflict of personalities” as the reason behind the petition.
However, the real estate agent withdrew the papers two months later and it seemed a reconciliation was on the horizon for the couple, until October of that year when she filed for legal separation. In addition, Kimberly requested sole physical custody and joint legal custody of the couple’s children.
Dennis responded by filing his own divorce papers a few weeks later, but the two eventually rekindled their romance in 2013, with a judge formally dismissing the divorce proceedings.
This is the second time Kimberly has filed for divorce from her actor husband.
This time, however, it appears both Dennis and Kimberly are in agreement with the divorce filing, and TMZ reports the couple have already arranged much of the particulars of the split (including the division of their assets).
The news comes after something of a career resurgence for Dennis, whose television series The Art of More – which he stars in and produces – was picked up by digital network Crackle as its first original drama.
The actor was also recently named one of People magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive.
