Coro star Kate Ford has been blasted by road safety campaigners, after she took a photo while driving her son to school.

The Coronation Street actress, who plays Tracy Barlow in the soap, shared an image on her Twitter page last week of the “school run traffic.”

And while Kate obviously thought nothing of sharing the snap on social media, she was quickly the target of road safety charities, who reminded the mum of one using a phone while driving is illegal.

Responding to the furore, Kate tweeted: “Thanks you @Brakecharity for raising my awareness. Had no idea taking a photo on my phone whilst at a stand still in car was illegal.”

She added that she hoped her mistake would raise awareness amongst other drivers, and stop further accidents from happening.

Kate shared the image to social media last week as she drove her eight-year-old son Otis to school. British schoolchildren have only just begun their new school year at the beginning of September.

A spokesperson for Brake said: “We see first hand the suffering caused by distracted drivers – it only takes a couple of seconds to wreck someone’s life. Don’t do a Kate – put your phone out of sight and on silent when you’re driving, and stay focused on the road.”
