Chris Hemsworth famously bulked up to portray Marvel superhero Thor, but the Australian actor is almost unrecognisable after dropping a dramatic amount of weight for his newest role.
The 32-year-old star plays a sailor scrambling to survive after a sperm whale attacks his ship in Ron Howard’s latest directorial effort In The Heart of The Sea. The film is based on a real-life tragedy that occurred in 1820 and is the inspiration behind the epic tale of Moby-Dick.

The role meant Chris had to look like he’d been battling the elements on the open sea and fighting off starvation, and it looks like he’s definitely thrown himself into the part!
Chris took to Twitter yesterday to share a photo that showed him looking gaunt and sunburnt, with wild hair, a scruffy beard and a much smaller physique compared to the rippling muscles he sported for the Thor films.
“Just tried a new diet/training program called ‘Lost At Sea’. Wouldn’t recommend it,” he captioned the eye-catching photo.
