The Oscar-winning actress gets candid about the issue of gender equality
Cate Blanchett blasts sexism in Hollywood

Cate, 45, didn’t hold back on the subject of women in the media during a recent interview with Vogue. When the interviewer asked Cate whether the trend of older women being forgotten by the film industry was changing, she had a simple answer.

“Female audiences are driving the change, I think. Women don’t stop consuming cultural product once they stop menstruating,” she said.

She was also matter of fact about the pay gap between men and women in other industries, not just the entertainment business.

“People were surprised? There are countless industries around the world where women in top positions are not equally remunerated for equal work,” she went on.

The actress, who can currently be seen as the stepmother in Disney’s live-action Cinderella, isn’t the only one speaking out about women’s rights. Emma Watson has been a champion of the UN gender equality campaign HeForShe, and Kerry Washington recently called for women, the LGBT community and others to unite for positive change.
