Benedict and Sophie’s Valentine’s Day wedding was a thoroughly British affair! The super-secret, intimate ceremony took place at a medieval church in Mottistone on the Isle of Wight – former home of the famed poet Lord Alfred Tennyson and Queen Victoria, no less!
The reception was held at nearby Mottistone Manor, a historically significant building surrounded by a picturesque a 650-acre estate. The manor is now owned by the National Trust, but before that it was owned by relatives of Sophie’s family, according to local sources quoted by People.
“There are sprawling lawns surrounded by roses, a nearby woodland with a stunning bluebell meadow that is really special,” Isle of Wight local Ross Findon told People.
“It’s a very romantic little spot.”
While the wedding was very hush-hush, some famous guests were spotted making their way to the church on Saturday, including The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston and Game of Thrones actor Tobias Menzies.
Benedict, 38, and Sophie, 36, are expecting their first child together later this year. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
