They’ve each poured their hearts out on national TV, but that’s not all they have in common. When it comes to body confidence, look no further than the stars of The Bachelor NZ.

Flaunting their physiques in sexy swimwear at our exclusive summer shoot, Nazanin Khanjani, Matilda Rice, Dani Robinson and Fleur Verhoeven tell Woman’s Day they are comfortable in the skin they’re in.

“I love my body and don’t mind showing it off,” beams exercise junkie Naz, who calls the gym her second home. “I choose not to go out much and I train hard and make good food choices, so I feel that I’ve earned the right to be confident about the way I look. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.”

Indeed, this gorgeous group of gals has no qualms about stripping to their swimwear for our camera, but they insist health is their top priority. Looking hot in a bikini is simply a happy by-product of their balanced approach to diet and exercise.

“Life’s too short to worry about the way you look 24/7,” says Matilda. “I don’t follow a diet, but I choose to make healthier choices and exercise regularly because of the way it makes me feel. When I’ve been kind to my body on the inside, it shows on the outside.”

Body-proud star Fleur is using her newfound fame to spread a positive message amongst the youth of today. “Teaching girls to love and respect their body no matter the size or shape has always been something I’m very passionate about,” she says.

“A lot of young girls reached out to me when I was on The Bachelor, so I feel really lucky I can talk to them while they are most impressionable.

“I just want to be a role model, which doesn’t make me perfect – I’m only human and I still have my insecurities. Most of the time, I feel great, but I also have days when I feel yuck.”

It’s a sentiment that rings true with Dani. “True body confidence comes with age,” she says. When I was younger, I hated my curves, but now I can’t get enough of my more feminine shape.

“I love my body. We have our problems at times but at the end of the day, we go to bed loving each other and we wake up loving each other.”

Dani feared for her waistline when she went on her OE in London. But after eight months abroad, the season one runner-up is back and in the best shape of her life.

Behind the scenes with Dani

“I was living on my own, so I didn’t feel very safe going out late at night by myself,” tells Dani, who landed a role in the London office of her father’s interior acoustics company. “I was doing heaps of long hours, so any spare time I did get, I hit the gym.”

A celebrity personal trainer – whose client list includes the Made in Chelsea cast – helped Dani tone her already athletic figure. But the 26-year-old also gained a whole new perspective on healthy living.

“My trainer taught me I can achieve the results I want without thrashing myself in the gym – and by results, I don’t just mean looking a certain way,” says Dani, who had breast enlargement surgery in 2015.

“I feel confident in my skin when I’m eating well, drinking lots of water and making time for me. I’m focused on finding that balance and feeling good from the inside out.”

Behind the scenes with Naz

When feisty Naz dumped her boyfriend last year, not a sliver of comfort food passed her lips. In fact, season two’s outspoken Bachelorette was so bruised by the “toxic” final weeks of her relationship with Craig Sutherland, she lost her appetite and dropped 6kg off her already tiny frame.

“I looked sick – people commented on how skinny I looked,” tells Naz, who tipped the scales at just 46kg when she and Craig, 31, split in December. “I’d always prided myself on being fit and strong, but I just looked unwell. Only three months earlier, when I won my boxing fight, I was in peak physical condition – but all the arguing and upset had really taken its toll.”

However, Naz refused to wallow in self-pity and the day after the split, she made the move up to Auckland for a fresh start. First on her list was getting back to full health, which for the competitive body builder starts in the gym. “I train six days a week to be fit and strong,” she says. “I love watching my body transform – it’s not just a passion, it’s an addiction.”

But a healthy one, tells Naz, who also follows a nutrition plan of white meats, veges, rice and bananas. “I still enjoy rest days, but I feel the best inside and out when I’m following an organised training and nutrition regime.”

In May, Naz will be taking to the stage for her first body- building competition in four years. She has called on the expertise of civil engineer and part-time trainer Arkan Taha, 28, to whip her into shape. Giggling, she hints that their relationship mightn’t be strictly professional. “He’s my main boy,” smiles Naz, who trains with him up to four times a week.

“Ever since the break-up, he’s been such a supportive friend. No moves have been made yet – Arkan respects me too much. But I’m trying to hold back – it’s hard! He’s such a cool guy and he’s so hot.”

Behind the scenes with Fleur and Matilda

With her hunky boyfriend as a personal trainer, it’s no wonder that Matilda is looking the best she ever has. In the past year, the bombshell Bachelorette – who found love with Art Green in season one of The Bachelor NZ two years ago – has lost 5kg and gained a set of washboard abs.

“I’ve seen changes in my body, but they’ve been so gradual that it doesn’t feel dramatic to me,” tells the 26-year-old, who has launched a social media consultancy business. “I haven’t made an effort to lose weight, but I have cleaned up my diet and these days I eat very few processed foods.”

Matilda credits her beau, 28, for her healthier lifestyle. “Art’s a great source of knowledge and motivation. We are on the same page when it comes to food,” she tells. “We would never ever fight over who wants pasta for dinner. The better I eat, the better I feel – and now I’m in the habit of making wiser, healthier food choices all the time.”

It’s a total turnaround from when filming on The Bachelor wrapped in 2014. “I packed it on in that bloody house,” says Matilda, who put on 7kg during filming. “Our diet was basically chocolate, pasta and Lindauer. We just didn’t care – we got so bored that we’d make food, sit around and gossip. I definitely didn’t feel the best about myself, but because Art and I were newly dating, it’s not something that really got me down.”

“But if I’ve learnt anything about myself, it’s that true happiness comes from within. It has nothing to do with looks and everything to do with accepting yourself as you are, surrounding yourself with loving people, and going

out and getting what you deserve.”

When Fleur met her new boyfriend, the Bachelorette’s challenging year took a turn for the better. Less than three months after being publicly dumped by Jordan Mauger, Fleur fell head over heels for photographer Richard Wood and the pair have been living happily ever since.

While Fleur doesn’t aspire to a gym-honed figure, sticking to a healthy lifestyle has more than just physical benefits for the blonde beauty, who

works for a childcare company. “I love the buzz I get after a run. I’m not a gym junkie and I don’t funnel all my energy into getting a supermodel figure, but when I find a good balance of eating healthily and exercising, I feel very positive and good about myself,” she reveals.
