Jordan, 32, and Chrystal Chenery, 31, dated each other briefly after meeting through mutual friends in their hometown of Christchurch.

The new Bachelor told Scout they dated “five or six years ago, but only for a period of a couple of months”.

However, the whirlwind romance seems to have moved along at top speed, with Jordan revealing the pair went away on holiday to Vancouver together after only a few weeks.

“It was an exciting love adventure,” Jordan told Scout.

“We were both travellers of the world, we got on like a house on fire. But we were only destined to be good friends.

“We had an unexplained spark and connection, and Chrystal was a great travel partner, but we weren’t feeling in love,” he said.

While their romantic connection may have fizzled out since then, it’s clear the two are still on great terms. When rumours about Jordan being the Bachelor first started circling, Chrystal jumped onto Twitter to throw her support behind her former beau.

“This guy would be amazing, I used to date him,” she tweeted.

Jordan, an assistant film director, was confirmed as the new Bachelor yesterday. When we spoke to the handsome 32-year-old, he revealed that he was ready to settle down and find true love.

“If you told me a year ago that I’d be on this show, I would’ve laughed in your face, but when you think about it, there are 20plus women all there committed to finding love and then there’s me committed to finding love,” he told us.

“I’m looking for that real connection and when it happens you can’t help it.”
