Antonia Prebble: What motivates me…

The Outrageous Fortune and Westside star splits her time between NZ and LA. She shares how she stays healthy in her busy life

Role model

My mother is my biggest role model. She is such a generous, kind and wise person and I learn so much from how she conducts her life.

LA life

Some of my favourite things to do when I’m in LA include trawling through their vintage shops, hiking up Runyon Canyon and Griffith Park, going to the Arclight Cinema, seeing one of the many stand-up shows that are on every night, trying all the weird and wonderful new food fads.

Rest & recharge

Sleep is the biggest thing for me, I sleep as much as I can, eight hours a night if possible. Then I have a protein-based breakfast, either eggs or a protein shake, as I find that’s the only thing that fills me up and gives me enough energy to get through to lunch time.

I also try to exercise about three times a week, either a CrossFit or Spinning class at the gym, or I’ll go for a walk or run around my neighbourhood. Even though it is VERY hard to get up early to exercise, afterwards I always feel glad I made the effort and the day just seems to go better. Wellbeing to me means being healthy inside and out, in mind and in body.

No 9-to-5 schedule

I don’t have a specific routine because my schedule changes so much. Sometimes I’ll be up at the crack of dawn for filming, the next day I can (and do) press snooze on my alarm more than I should. At night, I might be learning lines for the next day or reading a book in bed. I find reading to be a really good way to wind down, far better than watching a TV show or movie.

Beauty favourites

Osmosis Mineral Foundation and Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF 50 (always in my bag!) and bright red lipstick – MAC and NARS both do some great shades.

A life well-travelled

I’ve been lucky enough to go to some pretty wonderful places, but I would say Vietnam was my favourite. I went there a few years ago as part of a charity cycling tour with Variety, the Children’s Charity, and I absolutely loved it. Discovering it all on a bike made me feel connected to the landscape in a way I hadn’t experienced before. I would love to go to Bali next.
